Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Time to act on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

SFU’s goal is to ensure our campuses are welcoming places for everyone to gather and learn and that all who work or study here feel a sense of belonging, inclusion, fairness and mutual respect. The ultimate goal is to create the conditions to foster a culture of inclusion and healthy campus environment.

There is important work ahead. We need to redouble our efforts to create a safe and inclusive campus where we can all thrive.

Message from Joy

“Addressing systemic issues can seem intimidating, but I believe it’s important that we start from a framework of possibility. We have strengths we can build on. [...]What we’ve heard from our community is that it’s time to act. ”

- Joy Johnson, VP Research
Chair EDI Executive Sub-Committee

Values and commitments

SFU is an institution built on strong values:

  • We are an open, inclusive university whose foundation is intellectual and academic freedom
  • Our scholarship unites teaching and research: we celebrate discovery, diversity and dialogue

Upon these foundations, we will engage all our communities in building a robust and ethical society. Read more about our values and commitments.

Our EDI priorities

We are committing to deliver on the following equity, diversity and inclusion priorities before the end of 安徽快3:

  • Engage in a self-assessment/data-gathering on diversity and inclusion
  • Develop more robust and equitable recruitment, retention and progression
  • Increase capacity and awareness of EDI opportunities
  • Enhance inclusion for everyone

EDI Resources

In partnership with the SFU Library, the EDI administrative group has put together an equity, diversity and inclusion resource guide that can be accessed by all students, staff and faculty.

These curated resources include videos, infographics, guides and scholarly materials to help you think more deeply about EDI and understand how these concepts are central to creating an equitable, diverse and inclusive SFU community.

Access the EDI resource guide.

Additionally, SFU Public Square has curated a collection of resources to support communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Advisory Council

SFU is working to deepen our focus on equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and is dedicated to ensuring our campuses are welcoming places for everyone to gather and learn, and that all who work or study here feel a sense of belonging, inclusion, fairness and mutual respect.

To assist with this work, we have appointed 25 members of the SFU community to serve on the EDI advisory council.
